RE: diesel OR gas

Diesel. Period. When you absolutely, positively, without question want the best towing grunt for your money available today? Accept no substitute. Buy a diesel, keep it properly maintained with fuel stabilizer, and enjoy the tow. IMHO: Consider a 1 ton DRW diesel while yer at it. I promise you'll thank yerself down the road some day.

What have you all done to keep your trailers at home?
Poured a 14'X120' concrete RV driveway with 50 amp service.

RE: 8 minute Motorhome!!!

I can't get dressed in 8 minutes much less buy a new RV without spending at least a year or two deciding on what we want; then another two or three day's having it independently inspected prior to the sale regardless if it's new or used. FWIW: I just don't know what to tell ya since I can't read your sales contract or see a copy of the PDI you completed prior to the sale. It's gonna cost ya I'm afraid but you may have some legal recourse. Good luck.

RE: And so it begins.....

Sounds like alot of work. FWIW: Keep the house and travel 6 to 9 months out of the year using your existing home as a home base. Personally, I still need my home space, a little piece of yard, and my patio with my birds, rabbits, and squirrls to come home to now and then. Lock me and the DW up in an RV for a year and we'd be calling the lawyers. Pay someone to mow the grass and a housekeeper to dust once a month while yer gone. After all, sooner or later, the kid's are going to take the key's from ya and you'll have to live someplace!!!

RE: Need Quik Advice 3.55 or 3.73 Rear Axel??

1. Is there going to be a noticable difference? 2. should I keep looking for the 3.73 or greater (LOWER)?? 3. What will be the affects of the 3.55 VS 3.73 when towing.
1. You bet.
2. You bet.
3. You'll need more throttle with the higher gears, RPM's will be lower with the higher 3.55 gears, and I promise you'll not be satisfied with the higher 3.55 gears on anything but flat terrain and sea level air density. Alway's try to tow with 3.73 or lower (4.10 - 4.88) gears. With a small gas V-8, you definitely want the lower (4.10 - 4.88) gears.

RE: Can I still tow a 5er with 10" of lift?

I'm looking at an '07 Silverado. It's lifted with 10". I was curious if we will be able to tow a 5er (even if we flip the axles).
Nope! Or remove the lift kit and return the suspension to stock.

RE: Kansas City

I beg you, please, for your own well being, do this. From I-70 east, take the Noland Road exit in Independence and go north on Noland Road to 23rd street. (about 5 miles) Turn left and go west about 3 miles on 23rd street. Just after you cross Sterling, look for "Clem's Drive In" on the right. Take two Nexium and stop and enjoy the world's best tenderloin you've ever eaten in your entire life. In fact, eat 2 of 'em. You'll be burpin all the way to the Colorado state line!!! My mouth's watering just thinking about a "Clem's" tenderloin. Add extra pickle & mustard, get an order of the curly frie's and a jumbo ice cold Coca-Cola. If you don't do this, you're missing out on one of life's greatest hidden treasures. It's a small joint with no eat in. You can pull round back to park or park next door in the abandoned gas station parking lot. At least it was abandoned last time we were through last year. We've parked our 5'er there for a sandwich several times over the years.

RE: Freeze Alarm, Where To Buy It?

I've never heard of a "freeze alarm". Please take this with the spirit intended: If you know 32 degrees is freezing, and you know where your RV islocated, why do you need a freeze alarm and what would you do different when the alarm goes off that you haven't already prepared for? I'm curious??? Many thanks in advance.

Look at the BMS website and click on "Fan Guide", then click on "camping"; it'll give you not only the BMS camping info but most RV camping within a 20 mile radius of BMS. We go to BMS every spring. Enjoy.

RE: Retail to Retail Deal

Anytime you trade, you allow the dealer the opportunity to make money twice off you on the same deal; off the unit you're buying and off the unit you're trading in. Don't muck up the water. Sell yer rig outright hopefully at high retail and go in with cash to buy yer new rig at or near wholesale. Sell high, buy low. Why would you want to do otherwise???

RE: luxury 5th wheel

ok everyone my wife has her heart set on a doubletree, but I'm looking at all of them. I have looked at crossroads, teton, landmark, newmar. I want to buy the best 5th I can afford 50 to 75 thousand is my price range.
Unless you intend to buy a used rig, your price range eliminates Teton & Newmar; and Teton is out of the RV business now. I know nothing about Crossroads or Landmark. We've had good luck with our Holiday Rambler and we have friends who have had good luck with their Montana. Good luck.

RE: Do extended warranties make sense?

Just had one of our 5 year old 15,000 BTU Carrier Heat Pump/Air Conditioner's crater at a replacement cost of $1430.00 installed under our extended warranty. Two years ago our Norcold refrigerator cratered at an installed replacement cost of $1182.00 under our extended warranty. Extended warranty cost at the time we purchased our current 5'er was $930 dollars with a zero deductable. IMHO: The right extended warranty is worth the peace of mind and the $'s. Even more so on a MH. Ya'll do what you want but I wouldn't pull or eexpecially drive anything off a lot without the right comprehensive extended RV warranty. As for the denied claims we're read about, don't know what to say about that; we're only hearing one side of the story.

RE: Air filter on TV.

...On the Ford with the K&N CAI on the dyno, I saw an increase of 10 HP & 17 TQ...
Happy camping!!! See ya'll down the road!!!:)
At what RPM did you observe this HP & torque increase while on the dyno?:C
It was high end HP/TQ; RPM over 1900 RPM through the remainder of the TQ band. I highly recommend a full K&N or Volant CAI for your diesel truck used for towing. Using just a K&N or Volant filter on anything else be it a gasseer or diesel truely is a waste of money.
Happy camping!!! See ya'll down the road!!!:)
Lets use your 1900rpm number for the below figures. A 7.3PSD would average 500ft/lbs at 1600rpm, a well known fact.
So: HP = torque x rpm / 5252
500x1900/5252= 181hp
517x1900/5252= 187hp
A whopping 6hp difference :B
HP is always a calculated number and is only useful to save "time" but at a huge cost of increased fuel consumtion and componet wear.
Torque is always a measured number and is the real work horse number that's useful as it's the maximum work a engine can produce at the lowest fuel consumtion and longest componet life span.
Now if you want to talk a power increase then there is a huge power gain from the diesel turbo effect from 1600rpm to 2400rpm. This power increase would be close to adding another engine along with the existing engine, a huge power gain.
BTW: My 5yo Granddaughter can twist 17ft/lbs with her hands!
:C
So what's yer point "Bone"???:?

Maybe other members can also contribute measurements from their RVs.Interesting. Why do I need to know what the amperage draw for each appliance is? Seem's I've never max'ed out my 12V requirement.
